Gainesville’s Sound Depot and Performance is pleased to announce that we have a complete selection of Android Auto head units in stock and on display for you to see and operate. If you are not familiar with Android Auto, it is Google’s answer to Apple’s CarPlay software, which we launched in our store last fall. This exciting new technology will allow you to safely use your Android-powered smartphone in your vehicle. Here is a link to Pioneer’s site with a video of one of their units in action:

Pioneer And Kenwood, Leaders In Android Auto
Pioneer and Kenwood are the two main players in this technology at the moment, and we have all of their units in stock, ready to go.
The concept behind this new technology is pretty simple. You own a smartphone, which comes with an internal computer more powerful than many laptops made just a few short years ago. We use the Google Maps function to navigate from point A to point B. It is also your primary source of communication with the outside world, whether by phone call, text or e-mail, and for many of us, it is the primary way we listen to our music. We store and stream music daily from our Android phones. But all is not well, because we didn’t have a safe and easy way to use the potential of this device in our vehicles. Until now. Enter Android Auto.
Voice Control Is The Key To Driving Safety
What if I told you that Google has spent thousands of hours on designing a user interface that relies on your voice for almost all of the interaction with your phone? And what if the touchscreen unit in the dash of your vehicle could have a large, easy-to-use button to navigate between your most-used functions? And that, once you push that button, you now control everything through Google’s advanced voice control? Sounds good so far, huh?
Additional Options Further Enhance The User Experience
What makes this even more exciting is that the Android Auto software is integrated into some really cool in-dash stereo systems. Here are some of the most popular features and options that will be available to you:
- HD radio
- Sirius XM radio
- Bluetooth for hands-free use and music streaming
- Backup cameras
- USB ports for digital music control
Picture Android Auto In Action
Imagine this scenario. We install one of our new Android Auto units from Pioneer or Kenwood in your vehicle. We come out to your vehicle and sit in it with you, showing you how to use it, and we stay as long as needed until you are comfortable with the technology.
You go home. Later that night, you decide to go out to eat. You walk out to your vehicle. You fire up Android Auto on your new unit and push the navigation icon on the touchscreen. Google Voice comes alive. You ask it about Chinese restaurants. You decide on one, and it gives you turn-by-turn, voice-guided directions that show up on the 7” screen we installed on your dash. You pull out of the driveway and push the Google Play button, asking it to play Led Zeppelin for you. Now you have navigation going with great tunes playing. When it is time for a turn, the music is muted, you hear the voice prompt and then Led Zeppelin is back. A few minutes down the road, you get a text message from your buddy. Android Auto will mute the music and ask you if you want to hear your text. You say yes, and it reads the text message to you. You can then respond by voice. When you’re done, Led Zeppelin sings to you again. All the while, you are focused on the road ahead of you instead of fiddling with your phone.
