Audi A8 Radar Detector and Window Tint for Gainesville Client

A longtime client from Gainesville recently contacted the team at Sound Depot and Performance to schedule the installation of a radar detector and laser defense system on his brand-new Audi A8. The client had traded in his 2017 RS7 that we had equipped with an Escort 9500ci and Crystalline window tint. He liked the tint and the Escort system so much that he called us from the Audi dealership to schedule the new installation.

The wiring was neatly bundled and secured.

The front laser shifters were mounted flanking the center logo.

The front system electronics were steathily mounted.

The radar and laser control and displays were mounted within easy reach and view.

The client wanted the newest radar detector and laser defense system from Escort to ensure he’d be protected against police radar and lidar guns. We showed him the Escort MAX Ci 360 and explained how it defends against laser and provides long-range warnings against radar.

Our team mounted the radar receivers behind the plastic bumper cover, then set to work mounting the ShifterMax laser shifters in the front grille. These laser transceivers need to be mounted securely, so they don’t move or vibrate as the car travels down the road. At the same time, the sensors need to be aligned perfectly level with the road and parallel to the direction of travel to provide proper performance. We mounted a total of four sensors in the front grill to provide optimum protection for this large vehicle.

All the wiring for the sensors is routed along the factory wire paths through the vehicle. We bundled and protected everything with the same automotive-grade cloth tape that Audi uses on its harnessing.

As you can see from the photos, we implemented a custom solution for the Escort display that mounts it inside the rearview mirror. The control panel for the system is mounted just above the mirror for easy access to cancel the laser defense system once the driver has slowed down.

Heat-Rejecting Window Tint

The client loved having 3M Crystalline window film on his RS7. We tinted the front window of the A8 with Crystalline CR70 and the side and rear windows with CR40 40% film to help keep the interior of his vehicle cool. Unlike conventional dyed films, the ceramic construction of Crystalline blocks significantly more infrared energy from the sun to help keep the interior of the vehicle cool.

With the radar detector and laser defense system installed and the window film installation complete, the client returned to Sound Depot and Performance in Gainesville to pick up his vehicle.
