Audi Radar and Laser Protection For Gainesville Client in RS7

A client from Gainesville came to Sound Depot and Performance with his beautiful, brand-new 2016 Audi RS7, looking for a custom-installed laser and radar detector. One of our team went out to the vehicle and looked it over with the client while talking about how his driving style and he used the vehicle. After getting to know him better, we worked up a solution that we felt best fit his needs. He liked our idea so we set an installation appointment.

If you are not familiar with the RS models from Audi, they are the pinnacle of performance and engineering. They rival the M Series cars from BMW and the AMG models from Mercedes. As you can imagine, if you own a car with this level of performance, you want to take advantage of it. For this reason, we installed the Escort 9500ci Platinum laser and radar detector system, along with the optional rear laser shifters.

One of the things that sets Sound Depot and Performance apart from our competition is the quality of our installations. Many shops only allow a certain amount of time to do an installation, and often will cut corners to meet a deadline. Our philosophy on custom-installed laser and radar detectors is that you are making a significant investment in your vehicle, so you want all the performance possible. For this reason, we go as far as needed to make sure the radar receiver in the front of the vehicle is hidden in a central location, while not being blocked by any metal, so it gets optimum range. It is bolted securely into position and all connections are made with longevity in mind.

Quite a bit of time is spent on the alignment of the front laser shifters, to ensure maximum protection.

When it comes time to mount the laser shifters, placement is critical. You want them to be as invisible as possible while still having an unhindered view of the road ahead. They also have to be precisely aimed, both horizontally and vertically, for optimum performance. You see, these are not just laser receivers – they are also shifters. When a vehicle is shot by a laser gun and you own a normal detector, all it does is confirm you are about to get a ticket. It can’t pick up a person in front of you being shot with laser because it uses light beams, not radar waves. The Escort 9500ci takes it to the next level. When your vehicle is shot with laser, the shifters immediately fire back powerful beams of light and the operator can’t get a reading on your vehicle. You simply slow down and drive on by, avoiding that costly fine.

For the ultimate in protection, you want to add laser shifters in the rear of the vehicle. As you can see in the picture, we strategically mounted a pair of shifters above and to each side of the rear license plate in an unobtrusive location.

Controller Mount for Audi Radar and Laser Protection

When the time came to focus our attention on the inside of the vehicle, we mounted the controller for the Escort unit in the cubbyhole in front of the shifter. It is easily accessed by the driver and has a closable door so only he knows it is there.

Gauge Cluster Alerts

Readings from the system are clearly visible in the gauge cluster.

The Mid City Engineering interface gave us the ability to integrate the radar system with the car gauge.

When you are driving the vehicle up the road and you hear the audible alert from the hidden speaker, it often catches you off-guard. You want an easy way to visually know what is going on. In this RS7, we installed a Mid City Engineering interface that gives the driver visual alerts right inside the driver information center in his gauge cluster. You can see the alerts in the pictures.

Paint Protection

The application of the paint protection film will keep this Audi looking good for years to come.

This stunning car will have fresh looking paint for many, many miles, thanks to the paint protection.

While we had the vehicle, we suggested he add our Suntek paint protection film. His Audi is a sizable investment, and adding our protective film will increase the value of the vehicle over time by keeping it looking newer. Our Suntek film protects the vehicle against things like bugs, small road debris and minor parking lot issues.
