A client from here in Gainesville came to Sound Depot and Performance in search of a Cadillac Escalade audio system upgrade for his 2009 model. He wanted something that played loud with good, solid bass, but also something that looks cool. The client auditioned our store demo vehicles and was instantly sold on our being able to provide him with the sound he wanted. We worked out a system design and scheduled an appointment to start work on his vehicle.
Custom Subwoofer Solution
The client loved the way the Memphis Car Audio M612D4 subwoofers sounded in our demo vehicles. We constructed a custom vented enclosure for the rear of the Escalade that would be home to four of these amazing 12-inch subs. Each of these awesome cast-basket subs is rated to handle up to 1,400 watts of power. We finished the enclosure with black vinyl and black suede.
Since the client wanted something unique to match the massive wheels on the truck, we created a trim panel to pick up on the curved theme of the wheels, then accented it with three badges and some LED backlighting. We added aluminum cargo slides to the top of the enclosure to give it some style, but also to allow the owner to use the rear of his truck.
Monster Power
To power the subwoofers, we installed a pair of five-channel Memphis MJ51400 amps from the M-Class series. Each of these amps has a subwoofer channel capable of providing 1,100 watts of power. With two amps in the truck, that’s 2,200 watts to the four woofers. We bridged the front channels of the amps to provide 320 watts to each of the front and rear door speakers. Having enough power will never be an issue.
Speakers and Sound Treatment
We installed a set of Hertz HCX165.4 6.5-inch coaxials in the front and rear doors. We added a set of Hertz HT28.4 tweeters to the front of the vehicle to help keep up with the massive amounts of bass the subwoofer system could produce. We treated the entire roof of the vehicle to a layer of MESA sound-deadening to help control bass when the client cranks it up. We also covered the headliner in black suede while we had it out of the truck.
Source Integration
We integrated with the factory head unit using a JL Audio FiX82 Integration processor. The FiX82 will undo any equalization or time alignment included in the factory system, providing a clean slate on which to build.
Thrilled Client Loved His Escalade Audio Upgrades
The client was thrilled with the way the truck looks and sounds. It gets extremely loud and sounds crystal-clear!
