A client from Jacksonville came to Sound Depot and Performance with his brand-new 2016 Polaris Slingshot, interested in an audio upgrade as well as some cosmetic upgrades to his vehicle. Our team looked over the vehicle and spent time talking with the client so we could understand his goals for the upgrades. Once we had all of our information, we worked up a proposal that he liked, so we set a time for him to drop off the vehicle.
Front Speaker Upgrades
This particular Slingshot was the SL model and came with the in-dash stereo system and backup camera already installed. These parts worked fine, but the audio section was lousy. It had very little output and the sound was hollow and bland. We began by replacing the factory front speaker panels with new ones from SSV, and we installed JL Audio M650-CCX-SG-TB 6.5”marine coaxes as well as a set of M100-CT-SG-TB 1” tweeters. Adding the tweeters to a set of coaxial speakers helps offset road noise when you’re driving at speed, keeping the sound crisp and detailed. Our team chose to use marine speakers upfront, based on the fact that client might see some rain on occasion.
Kick-Butt Bass

Two JL Audio subwoofers keep this Polaris rockin’.
Once we had handled the speaker situation, we turned our attention to giving the client some great-quality bass. We installed another set of SSV panels that go behind the seats and mounted a pair of JL Audio 10W1v2-4 10” subwoofers. When you factor in the great front speakers and these kick-butt subs, we had the makings of a great-sounding audio system.
Massive Clean Power

The JL Audio amplifier is a marine amp, which means it can handle the extremes this Polaris will be exposed to.
The next piece of the puzzle was power, and we went back to JL Audio, choosing the M700/5 marine amplifier. It sends 200 watts per channel to the front speakers as well as 300 watts of clean power to the subwoofers. Having this kind of power gives the client the capability to have concert-level volume any time he chooses just by cranking up the system, all the while giving him incredible detail and clarity he never had with the stock stereo system.
Top-Notch Installation Practices

Our technicians take great care to make sure the paint is protected while working on the slingshot.
In usual Sound Depot fashion, we neatly loomed and securely fastened all of our wiring to allow for easy servicing in the future. All of our installation parts were marine-grade, so we knew they would last. It is our opinion that the installation is every bit as important as the product itself. When you are having a boat, motorcycle or powersports vehicle worked on, skimping on the installation is a bad decision. You want a shop that spares no attention to detail so you know your system will be reliable for years down the road.
Graphics Package Enhances The Exterior
Now that the stereo system sounded great, we turned our attention to making this Slingshot grab even more attention than normal. We began by installing an AMR Graphics package on the vehicle and, as you can see in the pictures, the combination of black and silver stripes on the red paint makes this thing look sinister.
Wheels And Tires Complete The Look
For the final piece of the puzzle, we knew wheels and tires had to be on the agenda, so we changed them out on this vehicle. Upfront, we installed a set of Ruff Racing 20×8.5” wheels in satin-black wrapped in 255/30r20 Lexani rubber. In the rear, we chose a Ruff Racing 22×10.5” satin-black wheel wrapped in 295/22r22 Lexani rubber. The graphics kit with the wheel and tire combination guarantees this Slingshot will get noticed wherever it goes, and will surely stand out from the crowd.
Polaris Slingshot Upgrades Blow Client Away!
As is the case with any installation we do, our team is only happy if the client is happy. When we delivered the vehicle to the client, he loved the new look, and was confident his Polaris was going to be the center of attention. When we cranked up the stereo system for the first time, his expression of delight was music to our ears.
