A client from here in Gainesville recently visited Sound Depot and Performance to inquire about upgrading his 2015 Axis A22 audio system. He purchased the boat second-hand and wasn’t impressed with the stereo that was in it. After talking to the client about where and how he used the boat, we put together an audio upgrade package that would deliver the output and clarity he wanted.
Rockford Fosgate Source Unit

The upgraded Rockford radio was a perfect fit for the dash location.
We based the upgrade around a Rockford Fosgate PMX-5CAN digital media receiver. The source unit fits nicely into the lower left portion of the dash. The PMX-5CAN includes an AM/FM receiver, Bluetooth audio streaming and a USB port for an iPhone or MP3 and WMA files on a memory stick. The color 2.7-inch LCD screen is designed to be clearly visible, even in bright sunlight. We added a remote auxiliary input and USB port to the right side of the steering wheel to make connecting external devices quick and easy.
JL Audio Five-Channel Marine Amplifier

The whole system is powered by this single, impressive JL Audio amplifier.
We used JL Audio marine-grade interconnects to feed the audio output from the radio to a JL Audio M700/5 amplifier that powers the system’s speakers and subwoofer. The amplifier is mounted securely near the battery and is wired into the boat using a Stinger marine-grade circuit breaker. This five-channel amp can produce up to 75 watts of power from its four main channels and 300 watts from the subwoofer channel.
Axis A22 Audio System Speaker Upgrades
We replaced the factory speakers with JL Audio MX650-CCX-SG-TB 6.5-inch coaxial drivers. One pair of speakers is mounted in the center of the rear bench seat and the other is set into the factory locations on the sides of the cockpit.
A single JL Audio M10IB5-SG-TB 10-inch subwoofer provides excellent low-frequency output to enhance the performance of the sound system. We mounted the sub in the storage compartment just ahead of the helm so that it will distribute bass evenly around the boat.
The last element of the upgrade was installing a set of Memphis Car Audio MXA62TS wakeboard tower speakers on the wakeboard tower. These 6.5-inch tower speakers present the amplifier with a 2-ohm load to increase the power available from each channel to 100 watts.
Another Happy Sound Depot Client
With the system installation complete and the amp dialed in, it was time to invite the client back to the store to experience his Axis A22 audio system upgrade for the first time. He was thrilled with the performance!
