A client from Gainesville recently dropped by Sound Depot and Performance to discuss upgrading the technology and adding some serious bass in his 2017 Toyota RAV4. We had a look at the vehicle and showed the client several source unit and audio component options in our showroom.
The client chose a Kenwood eXcelon multimedia receiver for the dash of his RAV4. For the audio upgrade, we started with a pair of Memphis Mojo612D2 12-inch subwoofers in a large, vented enclosure that sits at the back of the cargo area. The subs are powered by a pair of Memphis PRX1500.1 amplifiers — one for each subwoofer.
To keep up the prodigious bass these subs produce, we replaced the factory speakers with Hertz Hi-Energy HCX165.4 components. A four-channel Kenwood XR400.4. amplifier powers the new speakers. We mounted the trio of amps under the floor of the trunk, along with a MESA MPower MP1200 44 Ah dry-cell battery.
