At Sound Depot and Performance, we see a lot of trucks for stereo system upgrades. Recently, a client stopped by for an estimate on his 2006 GMC Sierra’s audio system. After spending some time with the client, we determined the best-sounding gear for his listening taste.
For the source, the client had previously purchased a Pioneer multi-media DVD player. We kept this source in the dash since it provided clean sound and the features needed to upgrade the sound. For speakers, the client chose our staff favorite – Hertz High Energy HSK165.4 components – for the front doors and the Hertz HCX165.4 coaxial speakers for the rear doors. These speakers combine great sound quality with exception power handling. At any volume level, these speakers sound great!
To power the system, the client chose the versatile JL Audio xd1000/5v2 five-channel amplifier. This amp is a powerhouse, providing 1,000 watts of crystal-clear sound quality to all of the truck’s new speakers.
To bring the thunder into the system, the client chose two JL Audio 10w3v3-4 subwoofers in a custom-built subwoofer enclosure. The bass was clear and had great output. For added control of the subwoofers, we installed a JL Audio HD-RLC remote bass control knob.
Since this client was after exceptional sound quality, he chose Sound Depot and Performance’s acoustic sound prep. In this vehicle, we installed MESA Mat sound-deadening and Fast Rings in all four doors. This inexpensive upgrade adds low-end extension and eliminates distortion. It’s a common upgrade that makes a huge difference in the overall sound quality of the system.
The stereo system installed in this 2006 GMC Sierra sounds fantastic.
