Gainesville Client Gets 2018 Acura NSX Paint Protection

A client from here in Gainesville contacted Sound Depot and Performance about an Acura NSX paint protection solution. The client wanted to protect the awesome Curva Red paint on his 2018 model car from damage with a high-quality paint protection film. We met with the client to understand how much coverage he wanted, then scheduled an appointment to begin the installation.

What is Paint Protection Film?

The smooth surface of the paint protection film is virtually undetectable.

Clear bra, paint protection film or flexible clearcoat are different names for the same product. Paint protection film is a flexible and transparent clear thermoplastic polyurethane coating that we can apply directly to your paint surface. The film will protect the fragile paint from nicks, scratches, scuffs and chips caused by gravel, stones and sand hitting your vehicle while you drive. The film is nearly impervious to stains from bug splatter, bird droppings and even tree sap.

The film features an exceptionally smooth finish that is indiscernible from factory painted surfaces. You can wash your car or truck just as you would an unprotected vehicle. The self-healing characteristics of the film will absorb minor scuffs and scratches that normally require corrective processes or even repainting on unprotected surfaces.

The slip solution allows for precise placement of the film.

A squeegee is used to push out the slip solution from under the film.

For most vehicles, we apply the film to the leading edge of the hood, and sometimes to the front bumper. This client wanted significantly more protection for his NSX. The plan was to apply film to the front bumper, the entire surface of the front fenders, all of the hood, the roof, the rearview mirror covers and the A-pillars.

With the paint surface clean and perfectly smooth, our team started the installation of film on each panel. First, we thoroughly spray each panel and the film with a slip solution. Once prepared, we apply the film to the panel and smooth it out using a squeegee. The squeegee removes the solution and helps the adhesive adhere securely to the paint. As you can imagine, working around the complex geometric shapes on the front bumper and fenders was challenging. With a little heat and some patience, we were able to get the film to adhere perfectly and look mirror smooth.

He was very happy with the installation and reiterated that it was nearly impossible to tell which panels have protection and which do not.
