Gainesville Client Gets Ford Mustang Stereo System

Mustang StereoA client from here in Gainesville, Florida, came to Sound Depot and Performance in search of an audio system that sounds as cool as her car looks. She wanted something with a lot of bass and clear, detailed highs. We designed a system for the client that would meet her needs without taking up too much space in her 2009 Ford Mustang. We explained each product suggestion and let her listen to those products in our showroom. Once she agreed to our plan, we scheduled an appointment to upgrade this Mustang stereo system.

Premium Source Unit

Mustang Stereo

The new Kenwood radio provides the client with tons of audio sources!

We started the project by removing the factory radio and installing a Kenwood DDX794 DVD receiver with Bluetooth and HD Radio. We used a PAC RadioPRO4 RP4-FD11 interface harness to connect the new radio to the vehicle and interface with the factory steering wheel audio controls. The new source unit provides the client with a 6.95-inch clear resistive touch panel screen to make using the radio easy. The DDX794 supports music playback from both Android and iPhone smartphones.

We ran three sets of MESA twisted-pair interconnects from the source unit to the amp rack behind the rear seat.

JL Audio Amplification

The amplifiers were mounted on the rear of the enclosure and neatly wired.

To power the system, the client agreed to our suggestion of a pair of JL Audio RD series amplifiers. We installed an RD1000/1 to power the subwoofers and an RD400/4 to power the front and rear high-frequency speakers. The amplifiers are mounted to the rear of the subwoofer enclosure to keep them protected and out of the way. We used a pair of Stinger power distribution blocks to divide the 4-gauge power wire to the two amplifiers.

Memphis Car Audio Speakers and Subwoofers

The Memphis tweeter provides the client with details high frequency information.

The doors remained relatively stock, with the exception of the tweeter addition.
Mustang Stereo
The best of both worlds! Lots of bass and still room for storage.
Mustang Stereo
The Memphis subs give the client plenty of bass.

We upgraded the factory speakers with Memphis Car Audio MClass MCX57 coaxial speakers in the front doors and the rear of the vehicle. We also installed a set of MCXA1 tweeters in the doors to further reinforce high frequencies and keep up with the subwoofers. Speaking of subwoofers, we installed a pair of Memphis Car Audio M610D4 10-inch, 500-watt subwoofers in a sealed enclosure.

Mustang Stereo System Power Delivery

The battery was fused for safety and switched by a relay for convenience.

To support the 1000-watt subwoofer amplifier, we added a second battery to the Mustang. We installed an MPower MP950 battery in the trunk and used a 500-amp solenoid from PAC to disconnect the battery from the charging system when the engine is not running.

The customer was thrilled with how the system sounded! The bass is nice and tight and gets very loud. If your muscle car needs some audio muscle, drop into Sound Depot and Performance or contact us by e-mail by clicking HERE.
