A client from High Springs, Florida, was recently at Sound Depot and Performance. He asked if we could upgrade the audio system in his 2002 Jeep Wrangler. We had just finished tinting the windows on his RS7, and all the cool audio gear in our showroom caught his attention. We looked at the Jeep and designed a simple system that would sound amazing. He liked the plan, so we scheduled an appointment to start this Jeep Wrangler audio system upgrade project.
Digital Media Source Unit

The Kenwood radio give the client numerous audio source options.
The client uses his smartphone for all his music, so there was no need for a CD player in the Jeep. We suggested the Kenwood KMR-M318BT Digital Media Receiver. This deck includes Bluetooth for hands-free calling and audio streaming. A USB port will charge his phone while on-the-road or off-the-road. We mounted the radio in the factory location in the dash. We ran three sets of M.E.S.A. Wire interconnects to the amplifier.
Five Channel Amplifier

Regardless of the elements this Jeep is exposed to, the Kenwood Marine amplifier will keep on cranking!
To power the system, the client chose a Kenwood KAC-M8005 marine five-channel amplifier. We mounted the amp to a thick ABS plastic panel and located it under the driver’s seat. A set of spacers under the amp rack ensure everything has adequate space to stay cool and dry. The four main channels of the amp run the front and rear speakers. The subwoofer channel is dedicated to the client’s subwoofer enclosure in the ‘trunk.’
Client Supplied Subwoofer

Our technicians firmly bolted down the client-supplied subwoofer enclosure.
The client already had subwoofers and an enclosure for the Jeep. The custom-built enclosure with a pair of JL Audio 8W3v3 subwoofers fit nicely into the storage area behind the rear seat. The Kenwood amp provides these subs with 500 watts of power for good, clean bass.
Speaker Upgrades
The client chose Hertz Energy.5 series speakers for the Jeep. We installed a set of 4-inch coaxial ECX 100.5 in the dash locations, and a set of 5.25-inch ECX 130.5 coaxial speakers in the tower bar. The Kenwood amp provides each speaker with up to 50 watts of clean power.
Premium Window Film
While we had the Jeep in the shop, the client asked us to tint the door windows. We applied 3M Color Stable tint to each window to help make the interior a little more comfortable.
