Boat season has begun. With the warm weather rolling in comes the rolling out of the boats from winter storage. Don’t wait until the summer months have arrived – check your marine audio now.
This client is a great example. He arrived at our shop recently with his 2012 Masters 247 Bay Boat. His complaints were that he could not hear his system clearly when the motors were running, and that there was significant distortion at higher volume levels as well as a lack of low-end bass.
After our expert audio staff reviewed the current install and listened to the system, we had a few immediate suggestions to improve the sound.
To start with, we added a subwoofer to solve the lack of low-end bass. The JL Audio MX10IB3-CG-WH 10-inch 175-watt subwoofer we installed fit perfectly into the captain’s console in the center of the boat. It takes advantage of an infinite-baffle, free-air design to deliver crisp bass regardless of enclosure size. Driving this amplifier is a JL Audio MHX300/1 marine-grade mini amplifier. Another MHX series 280/4 amplifier gives the current mids and highs much-needed power to achieve the desired volume levels well before the point of distortion.
As with all of our marine installations, we used all stainless hardware ensuring no rust or corrosion and mounted the amplifiers on marine Starboard.
The client was thrilled beyond expectations upon delivery of the install and discussed near-future plans to upgrade the existing Infinity coaxials to JL Audio MX series.
