A client from Ocala contacted Sound Depot and Performance while researching Polaris stereo system and lighting upgrade options. We had a look at his XP 1000 NorthStar Ranger and talked about how he likes to listen to his music and where he drove the side-by-side. With a firm understanding of his goals, we offered an audio system and lighting upgrade that we felt would give him the performance he wanted.
Polaris Stereo System Upgrade
The Polaris stereo system is based around a JL Audio MBT-RX Bluetooth receiver. This hideaway receiver allows the client to use his smartphone as the source unit for the system. The output of the MBT-RX feeds a JL Audio MX500/4 four-channel amplifier. Our team mounted the amp on the back wall of the vehicle, behind the driver’s seat.
The front channels of the MX500/4 power a set of Hertz HMX 8 S coaxial speakers. Our fabrication team created a set of custom mounting panels for the lower portion of the Ranger’s doors. The panel allows the deep 8-inch coaxial speaker to fit without running into the outer door skin.
We also mounted a set of Hertz HMX 6.5 S to the roof of the Ranger. Our team crafted a set of spacer rings for this location as well and wrapped them in a matching grey carpet. The MX500/4 provides a healthy 70 watts to each of the speakers to ensure the client’s music comes through loud and clear.
LED Lighting Upgrade
To make driving the Ranger safer after dark, we mounted a RaceSport RS36 8-inch LED light bar to the front bumper of the vehicle. This compact solution produces an impressive 2,340 lumens of output. The next step was to mount four RaceSport RS6L24WC lights in the vehicle fenders to serve as rock lights.
Custom Control Switches
To give the upgrades a truly integrated feel, we ordered three rocker switches from Race Sport. We mounted the LED light bar and rock light switches in the center console just above the HVAC controls. A third switch dedicated to controlling the audio system is mounted on the dash, just to the left of the steering column. We added a marine-grade remote level control on a custom panel just below the on/off switch to serve as the master volume control for the system.
Side-By-Side Vehicle Upgrades
The client returned to Sound Depot and Performance anxious to check out the upgrades to his Ranger. He was amazed at the clarity of the stereo system and loved the light output from LEDs.
