Repeat Client Gets Powerful Audio Upgrades For Mercedes GLE

A repeat client from the local Gainesville area came back to Sound Depot and Performance for an audio upgrade for her new 2016 Mercedes GLE. She consulted with our sales and installation staff and said that she wanted the system to not only sound great, but get loud and clear with heart-pounding bass whenever she wanted to turn it up. We knew just what she needed.

Audio Control Processor Facilitates OEM Radio Retention

We determined that the factory head unit had all of the features she needed and would provide an adequate source unit. We used an Audio Control LC7 to convert the signal for use with the amplifiers that we chose, and to provide additional bass control for the client when she wanted to kick the system into high gear.

Audison And Hertz Combination

The area under the hatch floor provided us the perfect location to mount all of the electronics for the audio system.

We chose the Audison AV Quattro amplifier to run the component speakers. With 120 watts by four channels, it has plenty of power and head room for those times when she wants it to get loud. We used the Hertz MLK 2TW component sets for the speakers due to their efficiency and ability to pull out every detail of the music at any volume level.

JL Audio Provides The Bass

The High Output enclosure by JL Audio gives the client plenty of bass, while still retaining lots of storage space.

We handled the subwoofer portion of the system with a combination of a JL Audio XD600/1v2 amplifier delivering 600 watts of efficient, class D power to the single JL Audio 12″ sub in the pre-built JL HO112-W6v3 package. The W6 is one of JL Audio’s best woofers, and it offers the high output that the client wanted in a compact, factory-built enclosure that delivers optimum performance and doesn’t take up much of the space under the hatch.

The storage compartment under the hatch gave us plenty of room to lay out a clean install with high-quality power wire and interconnects. We mounted everything neatly, and tied down all the wires for a professional install that looks as good as it sounds. Mercedes is known for building a quiet vehicle, but with an upgraded audio system, we took the extra measure of some MESA Matt sound-deadening to enhance the audio performance.

Accent Lighting Completes The Package

LED lighting strips, that are very thin and flexible, were installed under the dash and seats to accentuate the interior at night.

The LED lighting provided a nice glow from under the seats.

The client’s last request was some interior LED accent lighting. It is pictured in red, but has full RGB control, so she can change the colors to fit her mood – just like her audio system!
