A local client recently brought his 2022 Ford Bronco to Sound Depot and Performance to have the stereo system upgraded with new speakers, amplifiers and subwoofers. He didn’t mind the features of the factory-installed radio but was disappointed with how the stereo system sounded. It wasn’t loud enough or clear enough and didn’t deliver adequate bass output. After looking at the vehicle and allowing the client to choose from the options we have on display, we put together an upgrade package to give him the audio system performance he wanted.
Ford Bronco Speaker Upgrade
The first order of business was to remove the factory-installed speakers from the Bronco. The SUV has woofers in the kick panels, midrange speakers on the dash and small pods by the rear liftgate. We replaced the midrange speakers with two sets of Kenwood KFC-X3C 3.5-inch midrange drivers. We installed a set of Kenwood KFC-X174 6.5-inch coaxial speakers in the kick panels.
Custom JL Audio Subwoofer System

These two JL Audio shallow-mount subwoofers add the bass the client desired, without taking up a lot of space.
The client wanted solid bass output but didn’t want to give up all the storage space in the rear of the vehicle. Our team constructed a custom vented enclosure to house a pair of JL Audio 12TW3-D8 shallow-mount 12-inch subwoofers. We finished the enclosure with a gray carpet matching the vehicle’s interior.
AudioControl System Amplifiers
A pair of AudioControl LC-Series amplifiers powers the new speakers. A four-channel LC-4.800 powers the midrange drivers on one set of channels and the coaxial speakers in the kick panels on the other pair. This amp can produce up to 125 watts of power from each channel, so there will be no concern about the amp being over-driven.
We installed an AudioControl LC-1.800 monoblock subwoofer amplifier to power the pair of 12-inch JL Audio drivers. This amp delivers up to 400 watts of power to each driver. We added an ACR-1 remote subwoofer level control to the system so the owner can fine-tune the bass level from the driver’s seat.
Gainesville’s Best Car Audio Upgrades
With all the equipment installed, our technicians set the crossovers and level controls on the amplifiers to ensure that the system would sound amazing. When the client arrived to pick up the Bronco, he immediately hopped in for a listen. He loved the way it sounded. It was loud and clear, and the bass was deep and solid.
