Recently, a long-time client from Tampa, Florida, contacted us about installing a car stereo system in his 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle. He wanted a simple sound system that could keep up with the vehicle’s loud exhaust. The client wanted to keep things simple and have the least amount of cutting possible on this classic Chevrolet.
To achieve that, we install front kick panels that the client provided to house our staff favorite: Kenwood KFC-x174 6.5″ speakers. These speakers sound great and are extremely durable. To keep things sounding great, we added a second pair of Kenwood speakers to the rear armrest panels. For the car stereo source in this classic Chevelle, we installed a retro-sound Chevrolet Chevelle Laguna radio. This radio matches the factory shaft-style radio and keeps things looking like factory.
Because of the vehicle’s loud exhaust, we knew that this system would need some extra power. To achieve that, we installed Memphis Car Audio’s SC4.300 300-watt amplifier. This tiny amp provides 300 watts of clean car stereo power to the new
Kenwo0d speakers. The power keeps distortion down while driving the speakers to their full potential. The amp is small enough to hide behind the new car stereo in the dash neatly.
The combination of new car stereo equipment made this 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle sound great.
