The owner of this 2019 Toyota Land Cruiser contacted the team at Sound Depot and Performance in Gainesville to inquire about a radar detector system and paint protection solution for his new SUV. We’ve installed several built-in radar and laser defense systems for the client in the past, and he wanted to make sure his new SUV was protected. He also wanted paint protection film installed on the front of the vehicle to keep the Brandywine Mica red paint looking like new.
Escort MAX CI 360 Radar Detector
For protection against speed traps, our technicians integrated an Escort MAX CI 360 radar detector and laser defense system into the Land Cruiser. The MAX CI 360 features dedicated front and rear radar antennae that offer excellent sensitivity. The In-Vehicle Technology (IVT) filter system helps prevent false alarms from adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring systems.
The radar antennae are mounted behind the front and rear bumper covers for a neat and tidy appearance.
Police Laser Defense System
Four laser defusers were used in the front of this Land Cruiser.
The second part of the MAX CI 360 is its laser defense system. Four ShifterMax laser transceivers are mounted on the vehicle to detect light signals from police lidar guns. Two sensors are mounted in the air inlets in the front bumper and the other two are mounted in the front grille near the headlights. This is a typical configuration on large SUVs and pickup trucks and helps to ensure optimal coverage.
When the ShifterMax sensors detect a laser signal, they begin transmitting a scrambled light pattern that prevents the gun from measuring the vehicle’s speed. The driver can check his speed, then cancel the transmission so that the officer can take another reading. With everything appearing legal, the vehicle will be left to continue on its way.
3M Scotchgard Paint Protection Film
Protecting the front of the Land Cruiser is our application of 3M PPF.
In order to protect the vehicle’s paint from chips and scratches, we applied 3M Scotchgard Pro Series 4.0 film to the front bumper, the hood and the front fenders of the vehicle. This tough urethane film will absorb impacts from sand and gravel, leaving the fragile paint underneath looking like new. Minute scratches and scuffs are absorbed by the self-healing properties of the film for a showroom-fresh appearance that will last for many years.
