Awhile ago, we installed a Pioneer AVH-2800BT in this client’s 2007 Toyota Tacoma. He brought the truck back to us to add a Tacoma collision avoidance system. We mentioned that we could also install a camera system. He liked the idea and opted for both.
We started by installing a Encore Automotive Systems BSD4W blind-spot detection system. The letter W at the end of the part number designates that the sensors are white. Since the client’s truck is also white, you can see where we were going with this. The sensors are in the side of the front bumper and the lower portion of the rear fender. We sealed the paint after drilling the holes so there would be no chance of rust. We mounted two small warning lights at the base of the A-pillars.
For video, we used two EchoMaster PCA-BS1-N cameras. The cameras are mounted to the underside of the rear view mirrors. The video signals go to a VS331 camera signal switcher. We wired the switcher to the turn signals, so as soon as the blinker is on, the appropriate camera image is displayed.
