If you are looking for the ultimate in smartphone integration, drop into Sound Depot and Performance in Gainesville and check out the new eXcelon CarPlay source units from Kenwood. These new source units feature improved audio performance and more features, and several offer larger screens to make them the best smartphone integration solutions in the industry. Let’s look at the four new CarPlay products from Kenwood.
DDX6904S
The Kenwood eXcelon DDX6904S is a 2-DIN multimedia receiver with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity built in. Bluetooth audio streaming and dual-phone hands-free calling make staying in touch easy. Support for Hi-Res audio formats – FLAC, DSD and WAV files – is provided by the dual USB connections and the memory stick of your choice. The built-in radio tuner includes HD Radio decoding, and with streaming audio services like Pandora, Spotify, Apple Music and Google Play, you’ll have nearly unlimited entertainment. You can add SiriusXM with an SXV300 tuner module.
The DDX6904S includes front and rear camera connectivity and iDatalink Maestro RR integration to display vehicle information and control systems like Ford Sync. Front, rear and subwoofer preamp outputs are rated at 5V and include crossovers, a 13-band equalizer and signal delay settings. You can even add the new DRV-N520 dashboard camera to record everything in front of you while you drive.
Kenwood eXcelon DDX9904S
The DDX9904S display is a step up from the 6.8-inch clear resistive touch panel of the 6904S to a 6.95-inch capacitive touchscreen. With the capacitive touch interface, images are brighter, clearer and easier to see. While the CD/DVD slot on the 6904S is at the top of the unit, the slot on the 9904S is behind the front panel. The motorized panel moves down to provide access and can be configured to stay partially open to improve screen visibility.
DNX694S and DNX994S
Upgrading to the DNX694S and DNX994S brings the same features as their DDX 6 and 9 series brethren but adds built-in navigation powered by Garmin. With lane assist, up-to-date mapping by Here and two years of access to INRIX Traffic, getting where you need to go is quick and easy. Onboard navigation is a great feature if you have a limited data plan or will be traveling to Canada or Mexico.
eXcelon CarPlay and Android Auto Solutions
When it comes to safety behind the wheel, the voice recognition features of CarPlay and Android Auto let you focus on the road. Listening to text messages and dictating responses is easy. Making phone calls from your contact lists or Internet search results is just as simple. You can, of course, get turn-by-turn navigation directions using Apple or Google maps. Both smartphone navigation applications include real-time traffic information for efficient routing.
