Harley factory stereo systems are pretty terrible. You are not likely to meet many fans of the OEM audio Harley outfits their bikes with. Fortunately for us at Sound Depot and Performance, as audio and motorcycle audio experts, fixing this is no problem!
The factory Harley speakers are undersized, under-powered and simply don’t sound very good. Many riders want to keep the stock look of their bike, though. In that case, such as this 2008 Harley Street Glide, we add larger, high-quality speakers and a marine-grade amplifier for a sound system that is suited for the environment of a motorcycle.
The speakers are a pair of Hertz HCX165 200 watt coaxials. These are powered by a compact JL Audio MHX280/4 four-channel amplifier that is hidden, wired and secured behind the front fairing. This is all tied into the factory Harley stereo for an original look, even though there’s nothing original about the new and improved sound.
