A longtime client of Sound Depot and Performance in Gainesville dropped by the store to inquire about having the windows tinted on his 2014 BMW 428i coupe. The client wanted a tint that would enhance the appearance of the vehicle while offering good protection from UV exposure. After looking at the film choices we offer, the client picked the new 3M Obsidian series.
BMW 428i Window Tint
To comply with the automotive window tint laws here in Florida, the client chose 30% film for the front windows and a slightly darker 15% for the side and rear windows. The new Obsidian film blocks 99% of UV rays from the sun to provide skin protection equivalent to a lotion sunblock with a sun protection factor of 1,000. This UV-blocking performance also helps protect the leather, vinyl and plastics in the interior of the vehicle from fading and drying out.
Computer Cut Window Tint
Sound Depot and Performance uses a high-quality, computer-controlled Graphtec CE6000-120 Plus cutting plotter and state-of-the-art software to cut all the tint we install on our client vehicles. Our investment in this equipment was significant, but the benefits to the client are worthwhile. First, we never have to cut the film on the vehicle. This eliminates the chances of scratches from a razor-knife or damage to rubber, vinyl, plastic and chrome trim around the window. Licensing the template software was an expensive proposition, but we find that it’s worth it to ensure that our clients’ vehicles leave the shop in perfect condition every time.
Window Tint Installation
With the film cut, our team set to work cleaning the glass to remove any debris, fingerprints or dust that might show through the film or cause it to bubble. Next, our tint technicians sprayed the windows with a slip agent and began the film positioning process. Once in place, they squeegeed the slip agent out from under the film. The process is much more complicated when there are compound curves as are found on the rear window of this BMW.
Gainesville’s Window Tint Experts
Once all the tint was installed and we had inspected every square inch of the film, we called the client to let him know that he could pick up his BMW 428i. Upon his return, we explained how to care for the film and let him know to not roll down the windows for a few days while the adhesive cured.
The client was thrilled with the way the car looked. If you are interested in having the windows of your car, truck or SUV tinted, drop by Sound Depot and Performance in Gainesville or send us an e-mail using our online contact form.
