Sound Depot and Performance has a few questions for you. When listen to your new Toyota stereo system, have you noticed that it sounds lousy? Have you owned several Toyota vehicles over the years, and thought your previous ones sounded better? Well, your thoughts are correct. Most Toyota vehicles made from 2012 and newer don’t sound as good as the 2011 and earlier models.
Why is that?
In the model year 2012, Toyota started installing what they call the “display audio” radio. This is a well-designed, touchscreen radio with some nice features that allow it to integrate with your smartphone.
Here is the sad reality. That fancy new radio in your dash cost Toyota a lot more money than the radios they used to install in their vehicles. They had to save money somewhere or have a price increase, so they cut costs by installing cheaper speakers and removing their premium JBL sound system out of all but their top-equipped models. You are left with a well-thought-out, easy-to-use radio that sound anemic and lifeless.
We Are Toyota Stereo System Experts
But all is not lost: Sound Depot and Performance has good news for you. Shortly after these 2012 models came out, clients came pouring into our showroom, disappointed in their car audio systems. We did a lot of research, and came up with some good solutions. First and foremost, we won’t tell you to remove the existing display audio radio from your dash. It is a great unit. We take a three-tiered approach to better sound in your Toyota.
Upgraded Speakers
First and foremost, if you are satisfied with the output level of your stereo system, but want the music to sound energized, we should upgrade your speakers. You will see a dramatic improvement in the sound quality of your music, and we will keep the original look of your interior. The new speakers will be installed on custom mounts behind your factory panels, keeping 100% of the interior look you have now. There are several different levels of speakers available to you, and we have all of them on display so you can get a live demonstration of the improvement in sound.
Better Bass
Toyota started using an equalization process known as “bass roll-off” to make their speakers last longer. Once your stereo gets to around 60% volume, an added EQ curve starts lowering the amount of bass in your music – and it is lousy. Our team can install a subwoofer, amplifier and processor to overcome this nasty bass roll-off and give you bass that has authority, not some wimpy, half-hearted attempt at music.
Amplifiers
Once you have upgraded your speakers and added bass, you may want to add an amplifier to allow your new speakers to play louder without straining. Now, when your favorite song comes on and you crank it up, you will hear no loss in sound quality, and will feel immersed in the song. That sure is a great feeling.
Go For The Trifecta
Many of our clients opt to do all three stages at once, and we can surely do that for you as well.
We invite you to stop by Sound Depot and Performance in Gainsville with your Toyota. One of our highly trained staff will sit in your vehicle with you and listen to your stereo system. You can tell us what you like and what you dislike about your current sound system. At that point, we will go back inside and let you hear products in our state-of-the-art showroom, so you can hear what you will be buying before the installation. We will work up a solution for you that will best fit your unique needs, and then schedule an appointment that works around your schedule.
